Business in Edinburgh, in numbers.
The City of Edinburgh has 18,635 registered businesses. Of these, 97 per cent are micro or small and 8.7 per cent are in information and communication (ONS, 2026). Finance and insurance employ 42,000 people, the city's second-largest sector by employment after health (ONS, 2024 data).
A new charge on every overnight stay means booking systems have to get it right.
Since 24 July 2026, paid overnight stays in Edinburgh carry a 5 per cent visitor levy for up to five nights in a row, and accommodation providers are filing their first returns this autumn. At the other end of the city's economy, finance and data firms, supported by the Data-Driven Innovation programme at the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University, need secure software, data pipelines and fintech builds. We build both: the booking and reporting fixes a guesthouse needs for the levy, and the platforms finance and data teams run on.

Do you work with businesses in Edinburgh?
Yes. We work with businesses in Edinburgh and across South East Scotland in UK hours, through video calls, a shared project board and a weekly demo. You can ring us on 07723 431000 on any working day, and a senior engineer joins every call, from the first conversation to launch.
Can you help with the Edinburgh visitor levy?
Yes. We update booking engines, property management integrations and websites so the levy is calculated, shown in the total price and reported correctly. The rules come from the City of Edinburgh Council, so check its guidance for what applies to your property.
Do you build software for financial services firms?
Yes. We build secure platforms, integrations and data pipelines with audit trails, role-based access and UK GDPR designed in. We do not hold FCA authorisation ourselves, so regulated activity stays with you, but we build the systems to support your obligations.
Can you work under Scots law?
Yes. The statement of work for each project names the governing law. With a Scottish client, we are happy to agree Scots law and the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts. As with any contract, ask your solicitor to review the terms before you sign.
